Greetings ATE Members,

I hope you are all looking forward to the upcoming year.  First and foremost I would like to extend a huge thank you to Richard Vala for the last 4 years of his services here at the ATE.  Richard is a consummate professional, whose passion and services for the post production community have been hugely beneficial for all of us here at the ATE.  I am very grateful for his ongoing commitment to the post community and we are fortunate that he will continue to play an integral role with the ATE.

The last half of 2013 we saw some changes within the Avid corporation with management restructuring of positions and affiliates.  Going forward Avid has stressed it's support of our group and we plan to once again bring you some big events in 2014.  We have some great sponsorship partners, and l look forward to working with them as well as meeting all of you.

There will be a transitioning period as we begin to restructure the group for the upcoming year as well as plan for what is to come, but our plan is to build on the last 4 years with bigger events, speakers and new ventures, as I hope the best of the ATE is yet to come.

Stay tuned ATE!

Happy New Year everyone,

Here's wishing good health and happiness to all in 2014.

With a new year upon us, I have decided to step aside as Avid Toronto Editor President due to time and scheduling constraints with my production company  and its properties.  I will still be closely involved with the users' group, however now as an Executive Advisor.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Executive Committee, David Gallagher, Gordon Burkell, JR Powel, and Al Mitchell for all the time and effort that they have provided during my time as President.  I would also like to thank Avid and our many sponsors that have contributed and endorsed  our users' group and the general meetings.  Lastly, I would like to thank our members for their continued support.

I am proud to introduce the Avid Toronto Editor's newest President, Mr. David Gallagher.  He has been an active member of the ATE, first serving as an executive committee member for over a year and then as Vice President for an additional two years.  He has worked with me to help elevate the level of quality of our events.  With his extensive history as an editor in the film and television industry to his experience as the VP, I am confident that he has what is needed to continue to grow the Avid Toronto Editors into the future.

I look forward to working with him and his team in the days to come.

Best Regards,
- Richard Vala

Hello fellow Editors,

So as you have probably noticed, we have changed our official association name to the Avid Toronto Editors.  Why the change? Well when the Avid Toronto Users' Group were originally created in 1995, Avid was mainly known for their editing software.  Fast forward to today and Avid is now leaders in audio, special effects/compositing, and editing for both professional and the general consumers.  Through a mutual discussion, both Avid and our Toronto executive committee has decided that changing our group's focus would be in the best interest of the group and it's members. We are still considered part of the Avid user group family, but with a greater focus on the editing community.

I'm sure many of you have already read or watched a ton of content concerning NAB 2011, but  I would like to share some of my impressions and experiences while attending the event.  First off, if you've never attended NAB as a professional editor, you definitely need to partake sooner rather than later.  From the creative minded person to the hardcore techie that loves everything technology based, there is just so much to experience at the event.  Not to mention, Vegas is definitely a place to go and visit and have fun, from shows, gambling and even gun ranges.  For those of you who are interested in what's happening with 3D and if it's going to last... I hate to break it to you but 3D looks like it is here to stay.  The amount of 3D hardware and software demonstrations that focused on the technology first hand was mind blowing.  What impressed me was Avid's demonstration of the use of 3D in editing.  It was very intuitive and felt like it could be the same experience as going from editing in standard to high definition.  So in the near future, we will be having an event that gives our members a more detail inside look into editing in 3D.

That's it for now.  See you at our next event on June 21, 2011.

Cheers,
-Richard

Hi everyone,

My name is Richard, your ATE President and welcome to my blog.  I hope to use this forum to keep everyone informed on how things are progressing here at ATE and in the industry.

Since this is my first entry let me update you on what we’ve been busy doing over the past 6 months.  As we announced last fall we’ve been working hard on getting this new and improved web site up and running.  It’s been a tough uphill battle.  I want to take the time to thank fellow AVID Editor David Gallagher for contributing to the overall structure of the site.  He was instrumental in helping us nail down the design and framework that has led to what you see now.  Thanks man!  One question, where’s the popcorn?

We have a new partner to our site, The Art of the Guillotine.com.  I highly recommend taking a look at what they have to offer.  There’s tons of film and television related information, videos and links for all the different types of video and film editors out there.

Our goal over the next year is to make the events cutting edge and more high profile.  So stay tuned to our 'Meetings' link for upcoming events.  Also, we still have a few great additions we are going to make to the web site.  So keep checking back over the next year to see what we have in store for our members.

Well that’s it for now.  If you have any suggestions on panels or events that you would like to see happen, please feel free to email me.  Also, anyone can contact me if they if they have any editing/industry based questions.  I’m here to help.

Cheers,
-Richard
